I'm posting remotely again.. I'm not going home today because my neighborhood is without power, can't buy gasoline, businesses aren't open.. etc etc. I'm going to give it another day or so before going back into it. The power is being slowly restored. When gas stations are up and running and most stores are open and such, I'll go home. I'm not going in like it is. I don't have a lot of groceries in my freezer, which is a good thing, since it's been without power. I'm dreading opening that freezer. I wonder if I could get the apartment maintenance guys to go take it all out of the freezer and dump the milk. I hope my power comes back on quickly. I feel like it probably will because I'm very close to a big hospital and maybe I'm on the same grid with that place.
I'm kind of anxious to get back and see what has happened to my pretty little neighborhood. I am also curious about how things are at work. I called my boss and he said they were flooded in with water standing about 2 to 3 feet high on the roads surrounding the hospital. There would be no going to work in that. The water may be drained off by now.
This ought to hold Houston for another 25 years. I guess I can relax about hurricanes. I'm hoping this was our last big one for this year at least. This hurricane season has been crazy. It was an added pressure that my boss did expect all of us to risk our lives and come to work no matter how severe the natural disaster. He surprised me yesterday when I called to see how they were all doing at the hospital and he said he thought I did the right thing by getting out of there. He sounded shook up and exhausted. I asked if he'd had any sleep and he said they were up all night of the storm, fighting water coming in and trying to just hold it together.
We got some bad weather off the storm all the way in north Louisiana, but the power stayed on (yay) and everyone is fine and happy. We are likely to have more bad weather today, but tomorrow promises to be a nice day.
Right now, I have to go party down like a 7 year old. It's Miss Libby's big day.
It's going to be noisy.
Happy Birthday, Virgos!
